Jamus Lim named Workers’ Party Youth WP president in new CEC nominations

SINGAPORE — The Workers’ Party (WP) announced the positions of its Central Executive Committee (CEC) on Wednesday (July 17), with Associate Professor Jamus Lim being appointed as the party’s youth wing chairman.

Former senior party member Nicole Seah served as the party’s youth wing chairperson until she resigned from the party in 2023 over an extramarital affair with another senior member, Mr Leon Perera.

Following Ms Seah’s resignation, deputy treasurer Nathaniel Koh was appointed chairman of the party’s youth wing.

Mr Perera, who was head of the media team, also resigned after the scandal was revealed.

Following Mr Perera’s departure, Mr Louis Chua was appointed head of the media team. Former Punggol East SMC MP Lee Li Lian took over Mr Chua’s previous position as deputy head of media.

WP said in a press statement that the Central Electoral Commission met on Tuesday and approved the nominations.

An additional member, Mr Fadli Fawzi, has been co-opted to the CEC. Mr Fawzi, a lawyer and former board member of the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore, was the WP candidate in Marine Parade GRC in the last general election in 2020.

Deputy Organizing Secretaries: Mr. Ang Boon Yaw, Mr. Foo Seck Guan Kenneth, Mr. Tan Kong Soon and Mr. Fadli Fawzi
Media Team Leader: Mr. Chua Kheng Wee Louis
Deputy Head of Media Team: Ms. Lee Li Lian
Head of Policy Research: Mr. Gerald Giam
Deputy Head of Policy Research: Prof. Jamus Lim
Youth President: Prof. Jamus Lim

On June 30, the team’s staff conference was held, at which 14 members were elected to the Central Electoral Commission, which is the party’s most important decision-making body.

Mr Pritam Singh was re-elected as secretary general and Ms Sylvia Lim as party chairwoman. Former WP chief Low Thia Khiang remains a member of the CEC. CNA
