E-commerce company Bigbasket recently launched BB Matrix, a software-as-a-service supply chain platform that aims to help retail businesses manage their supply chains and operations.

The launch comes as competition in the e-commerce space intensifies as more companies look to enter the sector. BB Matrix hopes to offer supply chain solutions to reduce costs and increase productivity that the industry needs.

BB Matrix will help forecast inventory, replenishment, warehousing, payments, deliveries and returns while providing real-time updates and identifying bottlenecks. It will also enable users to make data-driven decisions, which is required to build resilient supply chain processes.

Speaking about the launch, Rakshit Daga, CPTO and Head of SaaS Business at Bigbasket, said, “To address the urgent demand for agile, robust and cost-effective supply chains, we have made BB Matrix available to enterprises across sectors beyond retail and e-commerce such as manufacturing, automotive, aviation, consumer goods, etc.”

The Bangalore-based e-commerce company was founded in 2011 by VS Sudhakar, Hari Menon, VS Ramesh, Vipul Parekh and Abhinay Choudhari. In 2021, Tata acquired a 64 per cent majority stake in the company through its digital subsidiary.

Bigbasket raised $200 million in January 2023 from its investors, including majority shareholder Tata, which increased the company’s valuation to $3.2 billion. Despite being acquired by Tata, the e-commerce platform continues to operate as a separate entity within the diversified conglomerate.

The company operates in over 30 cities in India and processes around 15 million orders per month (as of January 2023)

According to media reports, Bigbasket plans to go public through an initial public offering in 2025 as part of its growth plan.
