Netherlands promotes renewable energy, sustainable development in Nigeria | APAnews

The Dutch government has launched the Nigerian Online Solar Marketplace in Lagos to help Nigeria transition from fossil fuels to clean energy by connecting business opportunities and facilitating tailored networking between public and private stakeholders.
In his opening speech, Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Michel Deelen said the digital solar market was created to create a clear entry point for supply and demand.
He stressed that the Nigerian solar energy market is crucial to the Dutch commitment to promoting renewable energy and sustainable development.
The envoy explained the growing interest from Dutch and Nigerian companies, including a Dutch company that recently signed a memorandum of understanding to build a next-generation solar panel factory in Nigeria.
The Chairwoman of the Confederation of Dutch Industries and Employers, Ingrid Thijssen, emphasised the confederation’s role in shaping the Dutch government’s policy and helping companies adapt to the new regulations.
According to Thijssen, the confederation supports Dutch entrepreneurs in international business ventures.
“The solar market is an example of how the Dutch government is making it easier for Dutch companies to expand in Nigeria,” Thijssen said.
In her speech, Bukola Lucas, Renewable Energy Policy Officer at the Dutch Embassy in Nigeria, said the consulate has been entrusted with the responsibility of developing the Nigerian solar energy sector and supporting sustainable trade.
She noted that since the launch of the solar market, the Dutch Embassy has set up an online platform and a secretariat.
She highlighted the platform’s role in connecting trusted solar energy companies.
“The aim of the market is to support Dutch companies already operating in Nigeria, as well as those wishing to enter this market, and to help them navigate the system effectively,” Lucas was quoted as saying by local media.
