COP29 President: Agenda will cover all social and economic sectors worldwide

As the President of COP29 and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Mukhtar Babayev, said during the presentation of the COP29 Presidency Action Plan, the COP29 agenda will cover all social and economic sectors around the world.

According to him, COP29 will focus on solving problems related to air emissions in trade, energy, tourism and transport. In addition, COP29 will address gender equality, education and urbanization.

“We strive to cover all important aspects of life. This is what inclusiveness is all about. We will spare no effort to achieve sustainable development and inclusive results,” Babayev said.

He stressed that the goal of COP29 is to take decisions that will limit global warming to 1.5 degrees.

“COP29 will discuss national adaptation plans, action plans and numerous initiatives. All steps will have global and regional significance,” Babayev said.

It is worth noting that in November, Azerbaijan will host COP29. This decision was made at the COP28 plenary meeting, which was held in Dubai on December 11 last year. Baku will become the center of the world and will host about 70-80 thousand foreign guests.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an agreement signed at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992 to prevent dangerous human interference with the climate system. The COP – Conference of the Parties – is the highest legislative body overseeing the implementation of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. The parties to the convention are 198 countries. Unless the parties agree otherwise, the COP is held annually. The first COP was held in March 1995 in Berlin, and its secretariat is located in Bonn.
