GE HealthCare to Buy Intelligent Ultrasound’s AI Business

GE HealthCare has entered into an agreement to acquire clinical artificial intelligence (AI) software company Intelligent Ultrasound for approximately $51 million.

GE HealthCare noted that it intends to fund the transaction with cash on hand; the companies expect to close the transaction in the last quarter of 2024, subject to customary closing conditions. Additional details of the transaction were not publicly disclosed.

In a statement, GE HealthCare said it plans to integrate the Cardiff, Wales, U.K.-based ultrasound company’s AI-powered integrated tools into its own US Ultrasound portfolio, with the goal of improving ease of use and streamlining workflows for clinicians and patients. In addition, GE HealthCare plans to add a team of research and development experts from Intelligent Ultrasound to its portfolio, the company said.

The agreement follows GE HealthCare’s acquisition of Caption Health in 2023, which expanded the company’s offering with new capabilities in AI-enabled imaging and AI development for early disease detection.
