Bangladesh quota protest: Bangladesh crisis: Army enforces curfew as student protests gather pace; death toll reaches 115 – The Economic Times Video

Bangladeshi soldiers patrolled the deserted streets of the capital Dhaka on July 20 during a curfew aimed at quelling deadly student protests against government job quotas that have killed at least 105 people this week, Reuters reported. The suspension of internet services and text messages has been in place since Thursday (July 19), cutting off Bangladesh from the rest of the world as police cracked down brutally on protests that continued despite a ban on public gatherings. Foreign phone calls were largely down, while the websites of Bangladesh-based media organizations were not updated and their social media accounts remained inactive. “Where will we go during this curfew? This is madness,” said Shilpi Begum, a Bangladeshi woman who works in Saudi Arabia but was unable to return during the curfew in Dhaka.
