CrowdStrike outage affects 8.5 million devices: Microsoft

Microsoft revealed that the latest CrowdStrike incident affected about 8.5 million Windows devices. That number represents less than 1 percent of Windows machines worldwide, according to a blog post by David Weston, vice president of enterprise security and operating systems at Microsoft.

This is the first time Microsoft or CrowdStrike have publicly released specific details about the scope of the disruption, which occurred recently. The issue stemmed from an update to CrowdStrike’s cybersecurity software that caused outages on affected Windows systems. It’s worth noting that Mac and Linux devices were not involved in the incident.
