The Investigative Service of the Ministry of Finance arrested three people for attempting to fraudulently acquire a plot of land in Kakheti

The Investigative Service of the Georgian Ministry of Finance reported on Friday the arrest of three people, including a foreign citizen, for attempting to fraudulently acquire a large plot of land in the east of the country using forged documents.

The service reported that during the investigation it was established that the criminals attempted to carry out the fraud by using false powers of attorney and fraudulent purchase agreements.

They used the documents to illegally acquire a plot of land with an area of ​​2,710,000 square meters located in the Kakheti region.

He added that the measures taken by the investigative service prevented “significant property damage” to the landowner in question, adding that the offence is punishable by imprisonment for a period of seven to nine years.
