Jamshedpur: Former MP and senior Congress leader Dr Ajoy Kumar on Sunday issued a press statement attacking the BJP over the recent Uttar Pradesh nameplate issue. Dr Kumar accused the BJP of indulging in “state-sponsored fanaticism” in the wake of “state-sponsored terrorism” in Manipur and Tripura. He criticised the order for dhabas and restaurant operators in Uttar Pradesh to install nameplates, calling it a divisive move by those with a “Manuvadi” mindset, aimed at dividing the country on religious and caste lines.

Dr Kumar argued that the BJP was trying to revive “untouchability” in a new form, undermining the unity of the nation. He condemned the BJP’s “divide and rule” policy, saying it would not succeed in Jharkhand. According to him, the BJP, referred to as the Bharatiya Jahili Party, was trying to incite tensions between tribal and minority communities in the state. He described the recent statement by the Home Minister as a shameful attempt to sow discord.

The senior Congress leader accused the BJP of not having a development plan for Jharkhand, instead having a detailed plan to destabilise the state through division and hatred. He alleged that the BJP’s dream of forming a government in Jharkhand on the basis of such policies will be thwarted by the people.

Dr Kumar dismissed the BJP’s attempts to assert its intentions towards Jharkhand, referring to the Vyapam and Saradha Chit Fund scam. He questioned the integrity of BJP leaders, suggesting that they look into corruption allegations against the former BJP prime minister. He alleged that the BJP was trying to mislead the tribal community, but emphasised that the tribals knew who their real well-wishers were.

Dr Kumar urged the Modi government to explain why the Sarna Dharma Code, a symbol of religious and cultural freedom for tribals, was not being implemented. He expressed confidence that an All India Alliance government would be formed in Jharkhand, saying the people were determined to expel the Bharatiya Jhoothi Party from the state.

Kumar’s statement accused the BJP of stoking division and hatred while failing to address key issues related to Jharkhand’s development. The state’s electorate is expected to turn against the BJP in the upcoming elections.
