Clark Water Honored for Solar Energy Expansion

CLARK FREEPORT — Clark Development Corporation (CDC) praised Clark Water for expanding its solar infrastructure.

“This initiative demonstrates Clark Water’s commitment to sustainability, which aligns with CDC’s renewable energy efforts, while effectively reducing energy costs and minimizing its carbon footprint,” said CDC CEO Agnes Devanadera.

Clark Water CEO Lyn Zamora said the expansion of water and sewerage services included the installation of two new solar systems.

These include a 19-kilowatt system at the Yakal storage facility and a larger 52-kilowatt installation at Pumping Station No. 1.

Zamora estimated that these upgrades will save about PHP 200,000 annually.

In 2019, Clark Water, a subsidiary of Manila Water Philippine Ventures, invested in sustainable energy by installing a 23-kilowatt solar panel at its wastewater treatment plant.

Zamora said the initiative has already resulted in savings of around PHP 500,000 at the outset.

Currently, Zamora added, Clark Water’s solar installations cover about five percent of Pumping Station 1’s energy needs, translating into monthly savings of PHP 40,000-50,000.

Manila Water Co. Inc. said it prioritizes energy efficiency in all its operations by complying with ISO 50001 standards and the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act.

Zamora said the company’s renewable energy efforts in 2023 resulted in a reduction of 4,126 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e).

The CDC said it will resume its Power of Choice forum series next month, focusing on energy, energy management, sustainability and policy in the Freeport area.

Representatives from the state-owned company said the forums aim to educate stakeholders, facilitate dialogue and support cooperation on energy efficiency and renewable energy, in line with the national government’s initiatives.
