Another Russian drone crashes in Romania after attack on Ukrainian ports

The Romanian Ministry of National Defense (MApN) confirmed on Thursday, July 25, that the remains of a Russian drone were found after attacks on neighboring Ukrainian ports. The drone crashed on Wednesday morning in a forest near the village of Plauru.

The ministry’s teams are also searching for other drones that may have fallen in Romanian territory yesterday evening. The Ukrainian command informed the Romanian authorities that three such devices flew into Romanian airspace during the attack.

Tulcea County residents received RO-Alert messages this morning, shortly after 1:20 a.m., warning of the risk of falling aircraft. The Russian attack on Ukraine’s ports near the Romanian border prompted two Finnish Air Force F-18s to take off from Kogălniceanu Air Base to monitor Russian activity. The aircraft remained in the air for two hours after 1:30 a.m.

As for the drone already found in Plauru, MApN claims it is a Russian Geran 1/2 drone, the name Russia has given to the Iranian Shahed drones.

“We determine that all locations indicated as potential incident areas are located outside residential areas and no infrastructure has been affected,” the MApN statement reads.

The ministry concluded its statement by condemning Russia’s attacks on Ukraine.

In December last year, a drone fell four kilometers from the town of Grindu in Tulcea County in southeastern Romania, leaving a crater 1.5 meters in diameter. In October 2023, several drones fell in Romanian territory after Russian attacks.

Since then, Russia has continued to attack the ports of Ismail and Reni, approaching Romanian territory.
