The announcement was made during the 8th Budget Session of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly by Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Chown Mein.

The budget places major emphasis on education, tourism and connectivity to boost socio-economic development and ensure a bright future for the state.

The education sector has received a significant boost with the allocation of Rs 2,139 crore under the Arun SHRI Mission. This unprecedented budget reflects the government’s commitment to building a robust and inclusive educational infrastructure.

Major initiatives include the establishment of 30 new government higher secondary and secondary schools and construction of residential buildings for teaching staff in Arunachal Pradesh.

IMPROVING HIGHER EDUCATION

Arunachal Pradesh’s education budget places a strong emphasis on higher education. Major investments are planned for infrastructure development in two engineering colleges, two model colleges and the Binni Yanga Government Women’s College.

The budget also includes construction of a university auditorium and a grant to the University of Arunachal Pradesh at Pasighat.

SCHOLARSHIPS AND FEE EXEMPTIONS

The Arunachal Pradesh budget introduces innovative scholarship programmes to empower students and promote higher education. The Dulari Kaniya programme, which offers Rs 50,000 to girls pursuing higher education or professional courses, is a key highlight.

Additionally, the budget provides for 100 percent fee waiver for students enrolled in undergraduate courses at IITs and 75 percent training fee waiver for those seeking a commercial pilot license.

These measures are intended to support skills development and academic excellence.

NEP COMPLIANCE

In line with the National Education Policy for 2020, the budget places great emphasis on teacher training and comprehensive school programmes.

Initiatives such as the 100 Days of Reading Campaign, the School Readiness Program and the extracurricular activities of “Saturday Without Baggage” aim to create a holistic learning environment.

Technology integration is also a priority, with plans to implement real-time digital inventories for public infrastructure in schools and hospitals and promote science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education in all educational institutions across the state.
