Call Files Endorsements for Aug. 6 Primary Election – St. Louis Call Newspapers

St. Louis County Council

Sixth District – Republicans

Ernie Trakas.

In the race for St. Louis County Council District 6, both candidates, incumbent Ernie Trakas and his opponent Mike Archer, are making strong arguments for representing the community. While they share similar commitments and legal expertise, Trakas’ extensive experience and past advocacy work give him a slight edge.

Trakas has been a consistent advocate for the 6th Ward, advocating for more funding and economic development for the 6th Ward. He has also spoken out against unpopular developments and facilitated open dialogue between residents and developers. His willingness to work across party lines when necessary, despite criticism, demonstrates his commitment to hands-on governance over party politics. His history of standing up for his constituents, particularly on zoning issues, demonstrates his commitment to the community.

But Archer also has impressive experience as a private-practice attorney and former assistant prosecutor. His commitment to community outreach during the campaign suggests he could be a capable representative. His concerns about Trakas’ support for County Executive Sam Page also underscore his independent stance, which many voters may find appealing. Archer’s potential to continue Trakas’ legacy, combined with his fresh perspective, make him a strong candidate.

Ultimately, while both candidates offer valuable qualities, Trakas’ proven record of advocacy makes him our choice. His experience and commitment to the best interests of South County justify his re-election. The Call supports Trakas.

Missouri House of Representatives

92nd District – Republicans

Kenneth Abram

Kenneth Abram and Cijo Mathews are running in the Republican primary for the 92nd U.S. House District, a seat currently held by Michael Burton, a Democrat from Lakeshire. Mathews did not return The Call’s questionnaire, so he is not eligible for the endorsement. The nomination belongs to Abram in this race. He has previously run for office, and his continued desire to represent the South County community of Jefferson City deserves our support.
