Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Anitha Vangalapudi on Thursday (July 25) slammed the YSR Congress party after it tagged the minister over a video that went viral showing students of Sri Subbaraya and Narayana College in Andhra Pradesh being attacked and molested by their seniors as part of the NCC drive.

In a reply to X (formerly Twitter), the Andhra Pradesh Home Minister responded to the Opposition’s claim about the degrading law and order situation under the current TDP government. Citing data, she confirmed that the incident took place in February 2024, during the previous YSRCP government, but has come to light now with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu issuing an inquiry order under the Prohibition of Harassment Act.

Significantly, the TDP leader in her statement also urged the YSRCP to refrain from spreading lies and blaming the current government for the atrocities that took place during their rule.

“We are now bringing the derailed law and order situation back on track. YSRCP people are not new to making such false allegations and beating people up. We would like to inform you that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty of any offence in the matter of law and order,” she added.

It is worth noting that six people have been identified and one arrested after shocking videos of senior students attacking juniors in a bid to create chaos at Sri Subbaraya and Narayana Colleges in Andhra Pradesh surfaced online.

Police said the incident took place in February, but none of the victims decided to file a complaint for fear of retaliation.

Significantly, Krishna Reddy, Inspector of Police (One Town Police Station), said that the police appeal to those in this or any other college who may have been subjected to assault or other forms of abuse to report the cases of ‘assault’ and strict action will be taken against the perpetrators.
