With the MLB trade deadline approaching next week, one executive believes it’s time for the Toronto Blue Jays to get rid of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, the general manager believes the Seattle Mariners could be a possible potential suitor.

“Just rip off the Band-Aid and trade Guerrero,” the executive said. “The Mariners should be calling every day.”

As the deadline approaches, Guerrero’s future in Toronto seems very uncertain. The star first baseman has yet to receive the long-term contract he seeks, and the two sides are reportedly “not particularly close to reaching a deal,” according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

The current contract disconnect could make trading Guerrero an easier decision for Toronto, although it would hurt his chances of competing in the near future. If the Blue Jays decide to move on from the 25-year-old, they’ll likely be looking for top-tier prospects in return.

This makes the Mariners an interesting team to do business with.

Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter believes the Mariners have the best farm system in the league, with players like infielder Lazaro Montes, shortstop Colt Emerson and catcher Harry Ford highlighting a talented group.

If Seattle decides to trade one of these young talents, they could be getting one of the best first basemen in the league.
