Cleveland Takes Steps to Reform Building Permits

Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb signed an executive order Thursday morning to reform building permitting, saying time is running out for changes that will affect everyone from homeowners to large developers.

The mayor ordered city departments to work together on solutions, taking into account three priorities:

  • Making the permitting process easier to understand
  • Modernizing the web portal so people can track their projects
  • Acceleration of permitting

“We are just getting started. There is much more to do. But you have my commitment that my team will be accountable to making this executive order a reality and to seeing real progress in our city,” said Mayor Bibbs.
City officials expect the technology upgrades to be completed by fall, but changing the city’s processes and culture will take longer.
