Global backsliding on gender parity threatens EU ambitions

The European Union’s executive is failing to achieve gender balance among its Member States at the highest level, as governments around the world and decision-makers in Brussels are reneging on important equality commitments.

Political expediency and institutional obstacles have complicated the EU’s efforts to achieve its broad gender parity goals. In addition to the European Commission’s failure to uphold equality goals, the European Parliament has decided to overturn its own rules among some members of the committee.
