$20m player to arrive in London on Monday – but won’t play for Chelsea until January

Fabrizio Romano this morning gave a short presentation on one of Chelsea’s latest talented young signings.

An insider claims a deal to sign Aaron Anselmino is already done. Chelsea will “pay a package in excess of $20 million” for the Boca Juniors centre-back. He will fly to England for a medical on Monday, but the medium-term plan is for him to be loaned to Boca “until January at least,” according to Romano.

Chelsea have a fairly deep central defender in the senior group and it’s hard to see where Anselmino could fit in even then. But if Trevoh Chalobah is sold and Anselmino really impresses, it’s not impossible he could get a chance in the second half of next season.

Depending on the situation with foreign loan deals in January, it is also possible he will move to Europe, but gain experience somewhere on the continent. A move to Spain or Portugal is a standard stepping stone from South American football to Europe, but it may not be necessary.

Chelsea are in no rush to sign their latest signing

This is a deal that has been brewing for a while now and we are surprised it hasn’t been confirmed and announced yet. It seemed like an easy deal to get done and the terms seem more or less the same as when it was first mentioned a month ago.

Anselmino will remain on loan in Argentina until January at least, so there is no rush to sign him and work with Enzo Maresca in pre-season. He will be added to the list of young talents we have playing in South America, Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez, who we will be keeping an eye on over the next few months.
