Goans scam app, thousands lose money in cash doubling scam

Panaji: Thousands of people in Goa were scammed out of millions of dollars after falling into a trap trap application who offered to double the invested money within two weeks. The victim of this internet fraud filed a complaint on the designated portal.

The scammers encouraged victims to charge so-called commissions to persuade more people to invest.
“Many people from Goa, especially from Ponda, have invested in this scheme and the police need to urgently investigate the matter,” the complainant said.
Initially, some investors posted about the profits they received from the scheme, prompting others to part with their money. Police said many people even sensed that the promise of profits was suspicious but pressed ahead anyway, hoping to get their principals back with a small bonus.
A few days ago, the app crashed and all the payments dried up. “We panicked and started texting each other,” said a person who was also scammed.
“We all soon realized that this plan was a scam. One of the victims has already filed an online complaint.”
The app has siphoned off amounts ranging from Rs 10,000 to the entire pensions of some victims. One such victim said that at one point, the cybercriminals posted a message mentioning technical issues with the app. The message promised that the contributions would be deposited into people’s accounts soon.
Another victim said cybercriminals had stipulated that one had to pay Rs 9,000 as a registration fee to continue using the services. Many fell for the scam, the victim said.
“I received confirmation of my complaint filed on the cybersecurity website,” said one victim. “I request all victims to file complaints as well. Then the cybersecurity team will take the matter seriously.”
