THE PENGUIN Comic-Con Trailer Shows Oz Going to War with Sofia Falcone; Release Date Finally Confirmed

As we write this, PenguinThe San Diego Comic-Con panel is still in full swing. HBO and Max wasted no time in releasing a trailer that was first shown to Hall H attendees, and you can see what happens when war breaks out in Gotham City in the player below.

After the events Batman (in which the Riddler murders Carmine Falcone), there’s a void that needs to be filled, and Colin Farrell’s Oz clearly believes he’s the man for the job.

But as he tries to become Gotham’s new King of Crime, he meets an unexpected enemy in Sofia Falcone. Filmmaker Matt Reeves told fans at Comic-Con that the original idea for Batman II was supposed to start with Oz taking over the underworld, but that idea turned into a television series.

It was also confirmed that Penguin The premiere on HBO and Max will take place on September 19, the day after Agatha all the time Premiering on Disney+.

“It’s a Scarface-style story” showrunner Lauren LeFranc recently told Entertainment Weekly. “This is the story of Oz’s rise to power before he actually reaches the top.”

“We are in the world of Oz” she added. “We live in the underground of the city. Oz is an influential and energetic person. You can’t always trust him. He’s very intelligent and very methodical, but he’s also incredibly impulsive. You can’t predict what he’s going to do.”

The Comic-Con exhibition also shows that Shazam! star Mark Strong appears to be playing a younger version of John Turturro’s Carmine Falcon on the show. Reeves also told fans during the panel that Farrell will reprise his role as Penguin in Batman IInews that doesn’t come as a huge surprise. Filming will begin next year.

The series is executive produced by Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, Lauren LeFranc, who serves as writer and showrunner, Craig Zobel, who is directing the first three episodes, and Bill Carraro.

Based on characters created for DC by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, Penguin is produced by Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, where Reeves and 6th & Idaho are under an overall deal. Daniel Pipski also serves as an executive producer.

Penguin Premieres on HBO and Max on September 19.
