Samsung Announces Innovative AI-Enhanced Upgrades for New Foldable Phones

Samsung Announces Innovative AI-Enhanced Upgrades for New Foldable Phones

At a stylish Parisian hotel, Samsung Electronics TM mobile chief Roh unveiled the company’s latest products, including foldable smartphones and the new Galaxy Ring, underscoring Samsung’s strategy to attract customers to its ecosystem.

Samsung is now focusing on artificial intelligence, known as Galaxy AI, to improve the user experience. Roh shared that vision in an interview with CNBC, discussing Samsung’s AI-powered features like an interpreter that translates speech and a Notes app that can record, transcribe and summarize content. These features are intended to boost sales of Samsung’s high-end smartphones, especially as consumers become more cautious about spending.

The company recently unveiled its new smartwatches, foldable smartphones, and the Galaxy Ring at its Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, signaling a strong focus on integrating AI capabilities into its devices. Samsung is positioning itself against competitors like Apple, which has also announced AI features, though they won’t be available until the end of the year.

Samsung’s mobile revenue has traditionally come from hardware sales, unlike Apple, which also makes significant money from software and services. Because Samsung’s phones run Google’s Android operating system, the company has less control over the monetization of software and apps compared to Apple. However, Samsung plans to improve its native apps and potentially explore subscription models for its AI services. This strategy could help Samsung capitalize on the growing interest in AI and diversify its offerings.

Samsung, a pioneer in foldable phones, has hinted at expanding the technology to other categories of devices. While details were not disclosed, Roh mentioned that as hardware and software components for foldable phones improve, Samsung may enter new product categories. Additionally, Samsung is developing a mixed reality headset with Google and Qualcomm, aiming to tap into the growing augmented reality market.
