Latest Mariners Trade Rumors: Could M’s Sign Another Rays Player?

Adam Jude

With 50 hours remaining until Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline, the Mariners remain engaged on multiple fronts, MLB sources say.

The Mariners have already made two trades in the league, acquiring Randy Arozarena and Yimi Garcia, and would like to make at least one more before Tuesday.

The question remains whether they will find a willing trading partner.

As of early Sunday afternoon, there was no sign that another Mariners trade was imminent.

The Tampa Rays are clearly in sell mode.

After Thursday’s Arozarena deal revitalized the trade market, the Rays remained the league’s most active team, sending reliever Jason Adams to the Padres on Sunday and then trading star third baseman Isaac Parades to the Cubs.

The parades were closely associated with the Mariners and would have been a perfect fit for Seattle.

The Mariners and Rays have been frequent trade partners — they completed 16 trades during the Jerry Dipoto and Justin Hollander tenures — and could meet again in the next two days.

The Mariners are known to be interested in first baseman Yandy Diaz. The reigning AL champion Diaz turns 33 next month and, with his numbers down a bit this season, it’s clearly time for the ever-regrouping Rays to trade him.
