Tandem Diabetes Care (Nasdaq:TNDM) today announced the launch of updated software for its t:slim X2 insulin pump with the Dexcom (Nasdaq:DXCM) continuous blood pressure monitoring system in Canada.

The San Diego-based tandem now offers its t:slim X2 pump software with Dexcom G6 and G7 continuous glucose monitors (CGMs). Health Canada has authorized the combination, which already exists in the U.S. market, for sale in the country. The companies are also offering the combination in other geographic regions when it launches in early 2024. The integration gives Canadian users more choice in how they manage their diabetes.

Tandem expects to make the integrated offering available in Canada this fall. It plans to email instructions to Canadian customers with a t:slim X2 pump under warranty, offering an option between the G7 and G6 with a free remote software update. New customers will receive pumps preloaded with the updated software.

The Dexcom G7 CGM is 60% smaller than the G6 and offers a 30-minute warm-up period (compared to the two-hour wait for glucose readings to begin in the past). The G7 delivers more information in one place with personalized insights, an extended-wear design, and more. It offers a simple wearable experience, starting with unscrewing the cap. Then, the user puts the sensor on their body and presses a button. Then the device turns on and can be paired with a smartphone.

Tandem’s t:slim X2 pump uses CGM data to predict glucose levels up to 30 minutes in advance and automatically adjusts insulin if necessary. It offers customizable personal profiles and optional settings for sleep or physical activity. Tandem also offers a variety of infusion sets that you wear on your body for added convenience and flexibility.

In a press release, André Côté, executive vice president and general manager of Dexcom Canada, said the launch “underscores Dexcom and Tandem’s shared commitment to delivering cutting-edge technology that empowers people with diabetes to live better and feel better every day.”

“This integration marks the first time an AID system in Canada has been compatible with both the Dexcom G7 and Dexcom G6 CGMs, demonstrating our commitment to continued leadership in AID systems and choice,” said Mark Novara, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, Tandem Diabetes Care. “We are proud to celebrate over 10 years of partnership with Dexcom with this milestone, which allows users in Canada to benefit from our #1 recommended insulin pump brand, now with Dexcom’s most advanced CGM technology.”
