Golf’s Return to the Games: One Voice Made All the Difference

But before the votes on golf and rugby sevens, we were eagerly awaiting news of which city would host the 2016 Games. Recently elected US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle travelled to Denmark to lobby for their home city, but surprisingly Chicago was knocked out in the first round of voting. Before the vote, Chicago seemed to be the clear favourite to host the 2016 Games, so its rejection in the first round was a reminder of just how unpredictable the IOC can be.
