East Peoria job fair offers renewable energy opportunities

PEORIA (25News Now) – Local contractors and those seeking jobs in the green energy sector met at Illinois Central College.

ICC hosted a solar contractor clinic and job fair at its East Peoria campus. The event provided an opportunity for contractors to grow their businesses by learning more about the ever-changing solar industry.

Interns present at the meeting also had the opportunity to learn more about potential careers.

ICC has a solar pipeline training program. Black Business Alliance CEO Denise Moore said it’s a great opportunity for those interested in working in green energy to learn more.

“They can receive a stipend for participating, and once they complete the training and receive their certificate, ICC will help them connect with employers who are looking for them,” Moore said.

The event featured several of the state’s largest renewable energy companies. Calvin Payne of Simply E&C Corp. said they are ready to help Central Illinoisans save money.

“With the tax incentives they offer, you can actually get a tax break for installing solar panels, which is what the state of Illinois gives us,” Payne said.

He added that switching to solar energy not only saves money but also protects the planet.

“It all comes back and helps the environment more and more. That’s the most important thing about solar energy. Instead of harming the environment, you’re helping the environment naturally,” Payne said.
