New app for parents helps monitor kids’ online activity with AI

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – We’re on your side for the scoop on a new parental control app that lets parents monitor their children’s online and phone activity using artificial intelligence technology.

The app is called Kids Nanny and thanks to the screen scanner function you can keep an eye on what your children are doing.

The aim of the screen scanner feature is to provide a safer online environment for children by using artificial intelligence technology to detect inappropriate content.

Once the app is downloaded, parents will receive real-time notifications about what their children are seeing, who they are messaging, and what is being said.

WBRC reached out to the Calera Police Department’s CASE program, which recommends these types of apps to parents.

Detective Sergeant Robbie Grant says it is a proactive approach parents can take to stop their children viewing inappropriate content such as drugs and alcohol.

“The internet is a great resource, but there are also a lot of dangerous aspects to it, especially with the growing threat of sextortion. Parents need to be able to see what their kids are doing. I understand that you want to give them space, but the internet is not the place for that because things can go very wrong very quickly.”

This is a free application that can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Google Play.

You can also find useful information on Calery’s Facebook page and at the Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
