New app for parents helps monitors kids activity online using AI

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. (WBRC) – We’re on your side getting information about a new parental control app that allows parents to monitor their kids’ online and phone activities using AI technology.

The app is called Kids Nanny and through the screen scanner feature, you can see what your kids are doing in real time.

The goal of the screen scanner feature is to help ensure a safer online environment for kids by using AI technology to detect inappropriate content.

Once the app is downloaded parents will get notified in real time about what their kids are seeing, who they are texting and what’s being said.

WBRC reached out to the Calera police department’s CASE program that recommends apps like these to parents.

Sgt. Robbie Grant says this a proactive approach parents can take to stop their kids from looking at inappropriate content like drugs and alcohol.

“The internet is a great resource however there are a lot of dangerous aspects about it especially with the sextortion threat that’s growing and growing. Parents need to be able to see what their kids are doing. I understand that you want to give them space but the internet is not the space to do that just because things can go very wrong very quickly.”

This is a free app that can be downloaded through the apple store or google play.

You can also find helpful resources through Calera’s case program on Facebook and the center for missing and exploited children.
