Deaths in coaching centres: Human rights panel demands report from govt, civic body

NHRC has issued notices to Delhi government, city police chief and municipal commissioner in connection with death of three civil service candidates in the basement of a training center in the city.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has requested a detailed report from them within two weeks, the statement said.

The Delhi Chief Secretary has also been asked to conduct a thorough investigation to ascertain the exact number of such institutes and coaching centres operating in violation of the laid down norms across Delhi. Every detail of such institutes, including complaints filed against them and action taken by the concerned department, is to be mentioned in the report, a statement issued by the NHRC said.

The NHRC said it had “officially taken note of media reports about the drowning of three students” in the flooded basement of the library renowned civil service training centre in Delhi on July 27.”

Press reports indicate that authorities have received numerous complaints about flooding but “no action has been taken.”

Expressing serious concern over the incident, the commission said the content of the press report indicated negligence on the part of the relevant authorities.

The Commission also took note of the death of another aspirant civil servant in Patel Nagar area of ​​Delhi.
