Warren County app could help residents weather severe storms

Warren County remains under a state of emergency after severe storms and several tornadoes struck the region earlier this month.

County officials are urging residents to download an app to help them stay safe during bad weather.

The Ready Warren County app can help you even when you don’t have coverage. You’ll receive push notifications even when text messages or phone calls don’t go through.

We all know how important this can be when a storm hits, power lines are down, and there’s no electricity.

The app will keep you updated about storms approaching Warren County, what areas could be impacted, and provide links to helpful resources once the storm has passed.

For example, a recent useful feature of the app was letting residents know where the power grid was handing out dry ice and water after those terrible storms that happened just two weeks ago.

County Public Affairs Director Don Lehman says Ready Warren County NY launched last year, but only 2,000 people have it. Warren County has about 65,000 residents.

Lehman claims that this app is a comprehensive solution.

“Honestly, during this storm about two weeks ago, we were getting a tornado warning. We knew exactly what direction the weather was going, and it was really helpful to have (the app) that wherever your cell phone is, you’ll get an alert that something’s changing.”

The app is available in the Apple and Google App Stores. And best of all, it’s free.
