Renewable America Nears Completion of Two Low-Income Solar Projects

Participation

Renewable America (RNA) announced new milestones in commercial operation dates for two key California solar installations. The 2.93 MW West Tambo Clean Power II (WEST-II) installationDirect current Livingston-based development and the 4.29 MW Dos Palos Clean Power (DOSP) facilityDirect current The Dos Palos project aims to meet carbon reduction goals in designated low-income and disadvantaged communities.

WEST-II is expected to achieve a commercial operation date (COD) in early August 2024. San Jose Clean Energy will purchase power generated by WEST-II to provide power to the San Jose community, while Peninsula Clean Energy will purchase power produced by DOSP to provide power to the residents of Los Banos.

“Climate change mitigation and community energy resilience are core to RNA’s mission,” said Ardeshir Arian, president and CEO of Renewable America. “These efforts advance California’s renewable energy goals while making a difference in the lives of residents in San Jose and Los Banos. We are thrilled to see these projects moving forward.”

The projects received an additional 20% ITC under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Low-Income Community Bonus Program, under the category of Qualified Low-Income Projects. Officially, these locations are classified as Disadvantaged Communities by the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA), a designation that applies to communities in the top 25% of CalEnviroScreen-identified census tracts statewide, as well as 22 census tracts in the top 5% of CalEnviroScreen pollution burden.

Renewable America is handling comprehensive project development using in-house resources, including site reconnaissance, lease negotiations, engineering, permitting, design and development. Its subsidiary, RNA Services, is serving as the EPC and O&M partner for WEST-II and DOSP.

“Distributed solar generation allows local communities to produce their own energy, preventing over-reliance on centralized energy sources,” Arian said. “In addition to the benefits of cleaner energy sources, San Jose and Los Banos will have greater energy independence and autonomy.”
