What will Great British Energy do?

INMr Sir Keir Starmer proposed a state-owned company called Great British Energy in September 2022, echoing the man dragged out of 10 Downing St two months earlier. Sir Keir studied Boris Johnson’s groundbreaking promise to “take back control” in the 2016 Brexit referendum. Adapting that mantra, the then-opposition leader complained that the only governments with a stake in the UK’s energy system were foreign ones, from Sweden, France and China. Great Britain Energy would provide “British power for the British people.” It would also allow him to abandon his more radical plan for complete renationalization.
