Twitter disappears from Mac App Store

X (formerly Twitter) is no longer available on the Mac App Store, suggesting it has been officially delisted.

Searches for both “Twitter” and “X” on the Apple platform no longer show the app. The URL also doesn’t work. Instead, it displays a pop-up saying it’s unavailable. This means new users can no longer download the service, and must instead rely on the browser-based version.

Some who have already installed the app have reported that they can still use it. Others have reported that using the iPad version on macOS could potentially cause its own issues.

X did not confirm when the app was removed from the list and has not yet responded to TechCrunch’s request for comment.

Today could mark the end of the company’s Mac app — which many users complained was riddled with bugs. After Elon Musk changed Twitter’s name to X in 2023, the new name was rolled out to all platforms except the Mac app, which hasn’t been updated in about a year.

It’s unclear if X plans to completely disable Twitter for Mac app functionality. We’ll update as more information becomes available.
