Senate publishes bills on energy, water and other spending

A $61.5 billion energy and water spending bill for fiscal year 2025 has been introduced in the Senate, which includes robust funding for federal clean energy and water programs, in stark contrast to the sweeping climate cuts in the House Republican proposal.

Core funding for the Energy Department, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation represents an increase of about $3.3 billion over fiscal year 2024 enacted levels, according to a summary released Thursday.

By increasing funding for a range of defense and non-defense programs, the bill received broad bipartisan support and passed unanimously by a vote of 28-0.

An energy and water bill proposed by House Republicans failed to gain enough support to pass last week and was pulled from the floor at the last minute.
