Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold Could Be the Thinnest Foldable Smartphone Ever

Honestly, Google, this might be the most leaked launch I’ve ever covered in my entire career in consumer tech. The closer we get to Google’s August 13th hardware launch date, the more it seems like there’s a leak every day. So far, we know about most of the products, their specs, and what they’ll look like. The only thing we don’t know for sure is the pricing, and speculation is everywhere. Today’s leak is about the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel Watch 3.

Google Pixel 9 Pro Foldable

So there are rumors that the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be slimmer than Samsung Galaxy X Fold 6. According to Android Headlines, Google’s upcoming foldable smartphone will be thinner than Samsung’s. This isn’t new territory for Google, as its predecessor, the 9 Pro Fold, was one of the thinnest foldable smartphones in the US. However, the 9 Pro Fold promises to be even thinner, measuring 0.41 inches (10.5 millimeters) thick when folded and 0.2 inches (5.1 millimeters) when unfolded. This could make it the thinnest foldable smartphone on the market when it launches; it will also be one of the heavier ones. Current reports indicate that the 9 Pro Fold weighs in at 9.1 ounces (257 grams), which is about 10% lighter than its predecessor.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Steve Hemmerstofferalso known as OnLeaks and 91Mobiles, has a set of leaked promotional photos. They show the display size, several AI features, and the price of the phone in the US. Available in two configurations, the 256GB version of the smartphone is reportedly priced at $1,799, while the 512GB model is expected to cost $1,919, both some of which are quite expensive.

I wonder how much the new thinnest smartphone will affect durability, if at all. And while a thinner phone sounds appealing, I worry about potential dents and cracks.

Google Watch 3

The leaks don’t stop with the Fold; leaks and rumors are circulating around the Pixel Watch 3. The latest, again from Android Headlines, is that instead of one watch, there will be two, both of which will have thinner bezels. And those thinner bezels will give the watches bigger screens. According to the report, the 41mm watch face will be 10% larger than the previous generation. In addition to last year’s 41mm chronograph, Google is reportedly launching a 45mm watch. Other quality of life improvements include brighter screens and charging capabilities that are 20% faster than previous watches.

If the leaks are to be believed, both watches will boast 24 hours of battery life (with the Always-on Display turned on). That increases to 36 hours in the new Battery Saver mode. This leads to speculation that the watch will not use the Wear OS “hybrid interface” that is supposed to significantly extend battery life. In the case of the OnePlus Watch 2, the battery life of which is supposed to be 100 hours.

I’ve had the previous two versions of the Google Watch 3 and I’m excited to potentially get this watch. I’ll never say no to a bigger screen or a bigger watch, period. And of course, longer battery life will never be underestimated here. I’m excited about the new fitness features, like the new morning “Fitbit Brief” that gives you a summary of your current health and fitness information. I’m also looking forward to ultra-wideband support for better location tracking and the ability to use Google Maps offline to help me navigate the sprawling streets of New York City. But are the new audio and haptic feedback designed to improve custom runs? As someone who hates running, I can take that or leave it.
