Renewable energy installations surge in Maharashtra and Gujarat

Data released by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) showed that the significant progress achieved by the two states was largely due to private sector developers independently arranging financing for their projects.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MNRE) has played a key role in supporting state initiatives through Central Financial Assistance (CFA) as envisaged under various government programmes.

During the fiscal years 2014-15 to 2023-24, the Ministry of Renewable Energy (MNRE) has allocated significant funds to support renewable energy projects in these states.

Maharashtra received ₹1,656.15 crore, while Gujarat benefited from ₹4,490.24 crore. However, detailed data regarding allocation of these funds to individual cities in each state is not maintained by the Ministry.

Responding to a question by Pune Rajya Sabha MP Medha Kulkarni, the ministry added that the Coal Ministry has identified two sites in Madhya Pradesh for setting up green ammonia plants.

These facilities are located in South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) in Johilla district and Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) in Pench district, more specifically in Jamunia Pathar village in Parasea Tehsil of Chhindwara district.

The setting up of these green ammonia plants is a strategic step towards sustainable energy solutions, contributing to India’s broader goal of improving its green energy infrastructure.

Experts say the joint efforts of various ministries and proactive participation of private sector developers underline India’s commitment to building a greener and more sustainable future.
