UGC NET Re-Exam 2024: NTA to Release Admit Cards Soon; Exams Now

The National Testing Agency (NTA) will soon release the admit cards for the UGC NET 2024 re-exam. Candidates can download the admit cards from the official website ugcnet.nta.ac.in once they are released. The new exam is scheduled to be held between August 21 and September 4, 2024.

Before issuing the admit card, NTA will issue the exam cards which will inform the candidates about the specific locations of their exam centres. These cards will contain important details like the date and time of the exam and additional instructions which will be given in the final admit cards.

In a significant change, the re-scheduled UGC NET exam will be conducted as a computer-based test (CBT), moving away from the previous pen-and-paper format. The June 2024 UGC NET exam, originally scheduled to be held on June 18, was cancelled by the Ministry of Education after it was conducted offline.

“The UGC NET June 2024 Cycle exam was earlier conducted in Pen & Paper (offline) mode. However, it will now be conducted in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode,” the NTA said in its notification regarding the revised exam schedule.

The UGC NET 2024 exams will be held in two daily shifts: Shift I from 9 am to 12 pm and Shift II from 3 pm to 6 pm. The schedule begins on August 21 with subjects like English, Japanese, Performing Arts, Electronic Sciences, Dogri, Spanish, Russian, Persian, Comparative Religious Studies and Hindu Studies. The final exams on September 4 will cover subjects like Political Science, Comparative Literature and Yoga.

Historically, all earlier UGC NET exams for assistant professor, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and PhD posts were conducted through the CBT method. The deviation from this norm in the June exam has prompted the agency to revert to the online format in the upcoming re-examination.

The registrations for the UGC NET exam have seen a significant increase; during the June exam, NTA recorded a record 11,21,225 candidates, a significant increase from the 9,45,872 candidates registered in December 2023. An impressive 9,08,580 candidates appeared in the June exam, giving an overall turnout of around 81 per cent.

Candidates are advised to keep a watch out for official announcements from NTA regarding their city certificates and admit cards as the exam date approaches.
