MTN Group has announced a number of management changes: its Congo-Brazzaville division has a new CEO.

MTN Nigeria Chief Technology Officer Mohammed Rufai has been promoted to CEO of MTN Congo-Brazzaville. He has held several senior positions within the MTN Group during his 24-year career, including CTO of MTN Ghana and served on the boards of Bayobab (Nigeria) and MTN Benin.

Rufai takes over the reins of MTN Congo-Brazzaville from Ayham Moussa, who was appointed Chief Operations Officer of MTN Nigeria. Moussa joined MTN for the first time, serving various markets, including Syria and Guinea-Conakry. He has held senior positions such as Chief Information Officer, Chief Technical and Information Officer and CEO of MTN Congo-Brazzaville.

Rufai will begin his role as head of MTN Congo-Brazzaville on September 1, while Ayham Moussa will take over on August 19..

Moussa is credited with driving MTN Congo-Brazzaville’s transition from 2G to 4G and establishing the unit as a technology leader. He replaces Hassan Jabber as COO in Nigeria, who is leaving after 22 years with the company, serving as CEO in Sudan, Guinea-Conakry and Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, MTN Ivory Coast CEO Djibril Ouattara has retired after nine years with the operator. He was praised by group chairman and CEO Ralph Mupita for playing a key role in building the Congo-Brazzaville unit and turning around MTN Ivory Coast.
