Ameresco Completes 78.3 MW BESS Array in Colorado to Enhance Resilience and Energy Security

Ameresco, a clean technology integration company specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy, has completed construction of eight BESSs in partnership with United Power, an electric cooperative serving the northern Front Range region of Colorado.

Ameresco’s assets include four 11.75 MW of battery energy storage systems and four 7.84 MW of battery energy storage systems across eight different United Power substations located in Adams, Broomfield and Weld counties.

These assets will provide 78.3 MW, 313.34 MWh of electrical storage capacity for United Power’s multi-site electricity distribution system.

While five of these sites are operational, the remaining three are expected to be operational by the end of summer 2024. The advanced battery systems will help United Power improve load balancing and integrate renewable energy sources.

Ameresco has integrated AI-powered clean energy software Stem to operate and maintain the systems. These batteries will allow the cooperative to efficiently store and dispatch energy during periods of high usage.

By leveraging this innovative technology, United Power optimizes its energy resources, increases grid resilience and ensures a reliable electricity supply to its members.

Battery storage systems enhance utility infrastructure, increasing resilience and energy security for a sustainable future.
