Saudi Arabia bids to build stadium on top of skyscraper

Saudi Arabia has formally submitted its bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. If the country is given the chance to host the World Cup, it plans to build 11 new, state-of-the-art stadiums in five host cities.

One of the stadiums will be built on the 105-mile, mirror-like LINE skyscraper, a masterpiece rising 500 meters above sea level. LINE is redefining the concept of urban development and what cities of the future will look like.

The planned stadium is expected to have a capacity of 46,010 spectators and will most likely be ready in 2032, if it is built at all.

The pitch is to be located at a height of over 350 meters above the ground

NEOM Stadium is likely to be the most unique stadium in the world, featuring state-of-the-art technology. It will be the home of the professional Saudi team.

The stadium, with a pitch over 350 metres above the ground, incredible views and a roof made from the city itself, guarantees a unique experience.

According to the bid, the stadium will feature state-of-the-art technology for players, spectators and broadcasters (e-ticket gateways, 4K Ultra HD broadcasting, etc.). It will be located in the heart of a new sports-focused development, next to the Health and Well-Being District and the University, which can be easily accessed from multiple levels of The LINE.

The stadium will be powered entirely by renewable energy

The stadium will, like the rest of the city, be powered entirely by renewable energy, generated primarily from wind and solar sources. Transport systems will be all electric, and a five-minute walk/urban accessibility model will promote walking.

Before and after the 2034 FIFA World Cup, the stadium will be a landmark on The LINE route, serving as the focal point of a sports and active lifestyle programme.

According to Saudi Arabia, the facility will not only be home to the men’s and women’s football club, but will also provide an iconic base for the club, fans and community programs, as well as hosting other major events.

The first section of LINE could be completed by 2030

There were rumors that LINE was in trouble, with its initial ambitions scaled back and doubts that it would ever reach its 105-mile (170 km) total length. But the bid confirms that Saudi authorities are committed to completing the first section by 2030, reports New Atlas.

The first section will reportedly be 1.5 miles (2.4 km) long, 500 m (1,640 ft) high, and 200 m (656 ft) wide. It will also run alongside a large artificial marina.

“On behalf of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, we are pleased to present our bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup,” Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said in a statement.

“It reflects the extraordinary transformation and all-round renaissance we are witnessing across the Kingdom at all levels, driven by the goals of Vision 2030.”

The Kingdom has maintained that its bid is based primarily on a desire for growth; growth in people, football and global connectivity. Hosting the FIFA World Cup is a major step in the development of the Kingdom’s sports sector, which has seen great progress and success in recent years.

“This has helped to solidify its position as an international destination for major sporting events. Hosting the FIFA World Cup will be the crowning achievement of the Kingdom’s efforts in this sector,” Salman added.
