NJ Transit refund period is open. Here’s how to get your money back.

The second part of NJ Transit’s new 30-day ticket expiration policy has begun, allowing riders with unused paper tickets to return them for a refund, and riders with unused mobile app tickets to receive refunds.

The new policy initially sparked an uproar among riders because the ticket validity period is shorter than neighboring Metro North or Long Island Railroad tickets, and because the original plan did not include refunds for unused tickets purchased before June 1. NJ Transit announced its refund policy in May, and it went into effect Aug. 1.

Some passengers took to social media to comment on the refund process approved on April 10, which resulted in a 15% increase in ticket prices from July 1.
