Consumer Discretionary Sector Headed for Worst Day in 2 Years

All SPDR ETFs tracking 11 sectors of the S&P 500 are down, but the fund tracking consumer discretionary is by far the worst performer as weak jobs data heightened concerns about even more pressure on consumers.

The Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR ETF fell 4.2%, hitting a nine-week low. It’s its worst day since September 13, 2022, when it fell 5.2%. Of the fund’s 52 stock components, 50 are falling.

Among the biggest-losing ETFs, shares of cruise operator Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Inc. fell 9.5% and shares of e-commerce giant Amazon.com Inc. lost 9.3%.

The only two stocks to rise were coffee retailer Starbuck Corp., which rose 1%, and McDonald’s Corp., which rose 0.7%.
