Sarawak Deputy Prime Minister Turns to South Korea for Ideas to Support Local Startups

KUCHING, Aug 3 — Sarawak is seeking to cooperate with South Korea on the start-up ecosystem and entrepreneurship development in the state, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

The Minister of Foreign Trade, Industry and Investment said this while leading a delegation that paid a courtesy visit to the Korea Institute for Start-up and Entrepreneurship Development (KISED) in Seoul on Thursday.

“Potential areas of cooperation between KISED and Sarawak include commercialisation of research and development work for startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and development of comprehensive startup support programmes.

“During the visit, KISED invited the Sarawak government to participate in the renowned Comeup Global Start-Up Festival, which will be held at the COEX Convention and Exhibition Centre in Seoul on December 11-12,” Awang Tengah said in a statement.

KISED was established in 2009 to promote the sustainable growth and global competitiveness of start-ups and entrepreneurs in South Korea through comprehensive support programs and initiatives, especially for technology and innovation start-ups. — Borneo Post
