Dylan Sprouse on Refusing to Tell Fat Kim Rhodes Joke from Suite Life

Dylan Sprouse refused to tell a planned ‘fat joke’ about his Zack and Cody’s Apartment Life on-screen mother, played by Kim Rhodes, during the series’ run, and now she reveals why.

During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s show Radio Andy On Thursday, on SiriusXM’s show promoting his upcoming film Duel, The actor explained that he simply doesn’t find these types of jokes funny.

“There’s a better joke somewhere else, unless you’re talking about yourself,” he told the host. “Unless it’s self-referential, which I find funny, but if you’re pointing a finger at people and you like talking about what they look like, I just don’t find it funny.”

In November 2023, Rhodes visited Back to the best podcast and revealed that when she was pregnant, the writers added a joke about her weight that Sprouse kept missing while filming the scene. The executive producer yelled “cut” and told him to make the joke, but he didn’t.

“He says, ‘I wouldn’t disrespect any woman like that, let alone this woman. Write something funny and I’ll say it.'” the actress recalled, adding that Dylan and Cole Sprouse always protected her and everyone on the set Apartment life“The fact that they understood at such a young age that it was their job to make sure everyone else was able to do their job was really impressive.”

On Thursday’s radio show, Cohen said it was impressive that Sprouse felt confident enough to say that to an executive producer when he was 14 or 15.

“I mean, you’d be surprised what having your own show at 11 years old does to your confidence,” he said.
