US State Department issues level 4 travel warning for Bangladesh

A Level 4 travel warning allows travel for non-emergency U.S. government employees and their family members.

The warning also stated that “travellers should not travel to Bangladesh due to the ongoing unrest in Dhaka. Demonstrations and violent clashes have been reported across Dhaka city, its surrounding areas and across Bangladesh.”

It also mentioned curfew, telecommunications disruption and Bangladesh Army deployment, adding that due to the situation “there may be a delay in providing routine consular services”.

The warning also advises travelers to avoid “tourist sites, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, restaurants, places of worship, school grounds and government facilities” due to the risk of “terrorist attacks”

It also advises travellers to avoid demonstrations and political gatherings, monitor local media and not to physically resist attempted attacks, but instead go to a safe place and report any incidents to local police.
