Google School Time feature coming to Android smartphones

Google is supporting School Time on more devices. School Time lets parents limit the functionality of their child’s devices during set times. This can be when the child is in class or any time period when an adult wants to limit screen time. Parents will be able to use the Family Link parental control app to set School Time times on select Android phones, tablets, and Samsung Galaxy Watches for their children. However, Google did not provide any further details on which devices in these categories will receive the update. The tool was initially launched on Fitbit Ace LTE smartwatches.

School Time is designed to reduce mobile distractions for young users. When enabled, it sets a dedicated homepage with limited notifications. Parents can choose which apps remain available, as well as allow text messages and calls from specific people. This encourages focus when needed, while also providing emergency contact if needed.

Family Link, Google’s portal for parents to manage their children’s mobile activity, received certification in 2022. If you’re looking for similar features in the Apple ecosystem, check out this feature.
