Monsha’at Launches E-Commerce Week to Support Saudi Entrepreneurs

Thanks for reading the news that Monsha’at is launching an E-commerce Week to support Saudi Arabian entrepreneurs, and now we’re sharing the details

Jeddah – Yasmine El Tohamy – JEDDHA: Saudi rock band Wasted Land made history on Saturday by becoming the first band from the Kingdom to appear at Wacken Open Air 2024, the world’s largest heavy metal festival.

Vocalist Emad Mujallid, guitarists Ayman Al-Ghamdi and Ahmed Khoja, bassist Mahmoud Al-Tayeb and drummer Tameem Helmi raised the Saudi flag as they took the stage and began their rousing performance.

The German Consul General in Jeddah, Eltje Aderhold, was among the crowd of thousands of metalworkers from all over the world.

“Standing on stage, playing in front of a crowd of heavy metal fans at the biggest metal festival in the world… and on top of that officially representing Saudi Arabia… it was a really different experience and an unforgettable moment,” Al-Ghamdi told Arab News from the small town of Wacken in northern Germany.

“After 20 years, the chance to play the biggest metal festival in the world was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The band earned the right to perform after beating five other groups to win the Wacken Metal Battle Middle East 2024 competition, which will take place in Jeddah in May.

Describing what it was like to perform in front of such a large audience, Al-Ghamdi said: “It was a mixture of excitement, nervousness and pride. At first it was overwhelming, but once we got on stage, everything became easy for us.

“We performed and had the best time we could, we didn’t expect such positive reactions from people we didn’t know.

“A lot of them were very surprised that we were from Saudi Arabia… They really showed us their support and we are really, really grateful for that.”

Saudi Arabia isn’t known as a hotbed of heavy metal, so the opportunity to play Wacken was an “honor” for Wasted Land and a chance to “showcase what Saudi Arabia has to offer,” Al-Ghamdi said.

“After playing Wacken Open Air, even though we didn’t win, we’re grateful just to have played there. We’re proud to have given it our all and represented Saudi Arabia at the biggest metal festival in the world.”

The 2024 festival lineup also includes The Scorpions, Amon Amarth, In Extremo, Blind Guardian and Beast Black.
