Samsung patent reveals LG Wing-like device

Samsung has been one of the most successful companies in the foldable smartphone segment. While OEMs are trying to adapt to this trend and release their own foldable devices, Korean companies are now trying different types of devices and new form factors for their display technology. Today, the folks at MySmartPrice discovered a patent on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) website. It appears to be a smartphone resembling the LG Wing, one of the most intriguing LG devices to come out before the company’s decline in the smartphone industry.

Samsung is working on an LG Wing-Like smartphone

The patent sketch shows a device with a hinge and a design reminiscent of the LG Wing. The device initially looks like a standard slab of glass. However, it can rotate and pivot like the LG Wing, a movement that reveals a secondary display at the bottom. Additionally, the screen can be rotated using the hinge. The patent indicates that the device will have a camera island in the upper right corner. It also shows a charging port, microphone, and speakers at the bottom.

According to the patent, the device looks and works like the LG Wing when it comes to rotation. The device will also be able to bend thanks to a hinge mechanism. This particular design will give users a full-size display to work with, as well as a smaller area at the bottom for controls.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t Samsung’s first foray into different display technology. For example, the company has had multiple patents for smartphones with triple-foldable displays. It’s also been rumored to be working on rollable display technology. Unfortunately, none of these innovative devices have seen the light of day. Still, a new patent doesn’t necessarily mean we’re close to seeing such a device on shelves. Samsung often files patents to protect its ideas for future use. Only time will tell if we’ll see another device like the LG Wing.
