Assam BJP to hold crucial meeting in Guwahati ahead of panchayat and by-elections

Guwahati (Assam) (India), August 4 (ANI): Ahead of by-elections in five constituencies and panchayat elections in Assam, a crucial meeting of the state BJP executive board will be held in Guwahati on Sunday.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, union ministers Kiren Rijiju and Pabitra Margherita, Assam BJP president Bhabesh Kalita and other senior leaders will attend the meeting.

Key issues, including the upcoming elections, are expected to be discussed.

State BJP president Bhabesh Kalita said the meeting would discuss several issues, including by-elections in five constituencies.

“Assam Chief Minister Harish Dwivedi, senior leaders and the Chief Minister will participate in the meeting. We will discuss the upcoming by-elections for five constituencies,” Kalita told ANI.

Earlier on July 24, Assam Chief Minister Atul Bora discussed the by-elections and panchayat elections, noting that the government plans to carry out reforms in local government bodies before August 31.

“We held extensive discussions with our colleagues today. The meeting was attended by central executive members and secretaries of district presidents. In view of the upcoming by-elections and panchayat elections, we have decided to reform our units at the grassroots level before August 31,” Bora said.

“We will be holding meetings in each constituency as part of this decision. Also, there will be no elections for specific symbols this time. Instead, members from each constituency will be handpicked, with two members to be elected per constituency. We have also decided to hold a workshop in August and have constituted a committee for the purpose,” he added. (ANI)
