Model project to be prepared for rehabilitation of Wayanad landslide survivors: Kerala Minister P Rajeev

Wayanad: A day after Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that a housing development will be constructed to help landslide-affected people in this northern Kerala district, state Industries Minister P Rajeev on Sunday said a model project will be prepared and appealed to all sectors to work together to achieve the goal.

Addressing a meeting of plantation owners and representatives of Wayanad district, Rajeev said the government aims to create a safe and secure settlement project with popular support.

The minister said the reconstruction project would be implemented through the government’s humanitarian aid fund.

He also termed social media campaigns against the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF) as “baseless”. He added that the fund is managed by the Secretary, Department of Finance and every rupee is accounted for.

“The fund is subject to audit by the CAG and is also subject to the Right to Information Act,” he stressed.

The minister said the government has directed A Geeta, joint commissioner of land revenue and former collector of income tax, Wayanad, to find a suitable place to resettle those who have lost their families, friends, properties and livelihoods and are staying in refugee camps.
