Rescuer injured while extinguishing fire in Odessa dies in hospital

A rescuer who was injured while extinguishing a fire in central Odessa has died in hospital.

According to Ukrinform, the State Rescue Service of Ukraine reported this on Facebook.

“Odessa rescuer Volodymyr Aleksandriuk – a 47-year-old senior assistant to the head of the regular shift of the operational and coordination center – who was injured while extinguishing a fire in the center of Odessa, died in hospital yesterday evening. Doctors did everything they could, but they could not save our colleague,” the State Emergency Service noted.

On July 30, a large fire broke out in a three-story residential building on Sofiivska Street in the historic center of Odessa. The fire engulfed an area of ​​about 500 square meters.

The fire was extinguished within two hours. Two firefighters from the State Rescue Service and one from the Association of Volunteer Firefighters of Ukraine were injured while extinguishing the fire.
